What's Magic-PCB®?
By embedding an UHF RFID Chip into the PCB the PCB itself becomes a passive RFID transponder. Any further identification by means of imprinting, laser engraving or labeling won't be necessary. Data can be exchanged between commercial UHF RFID read- write modules and the embedded chip. Depending on the favoured range, a boostantenna can be linked to one of the outer layers.
How can every PCB become a Magic-PCB®?
The RFID Chips are embedded into the multi up panel in a very early phase of production and sealed afterwards. These steps are realized by the MAM Service Centre. As PCB manufacturer you function in delivering your own, well-arranged multi up panels to the MAM Service Centre. The MAM Service Centre takes care of the correct and precise installation of the chips and if necessary also for the cleaning of stud holes which are needed for linking a boostantenna. The completely assembled multi up panel will immediately be delivered back to you so you can go ahead with production.

Murata and Beta LAYOUT offer PCB service with free embedded UHF RFID
Printed Circuit Boards with embedded RFID now online available
Murata and their RFID partner Beta LAYOUT today announced the launch of a prototype trial service for their MAGICSTRAP-based PCB RFID devices. Using Murata's MAGICSTRAP devices, Beta LAYOUT will embed the UHF RFID component for a regular prototype order of up to 50 PCBs without extra charge. The service is online available. This allows electronics equipment manufacturers to investigate the ease with which this PCB identification approach can be implemented.
The use of UHF RFID has immense advantages compared to traditional optical identification methods. UHF RFID uses a batteryless approach. It will work when the device is unpowered and does not need line of sight. Identification can occur when the finished PCB is fully assembled and when it is packaged in the shipping carton. Apart from board traceability, the identification is available across the whole supply chain and greatly aids anti-counterfeit brand protection initiatives.
Starting from April 2013 this free RFID-prototyping service is available for 6 months.
